Teaching Reading: We all know how important is to include as much skills as possible during a lesson plan. That is why, it is necessary to prepare an amount of activities that help students to get ready to enjoy and understand the task. Schemata is an invaluable tool to elicit information from the students before and during the activity. It engages students in the topic and encourage them to participate spontaneously.
I have to keep in mind this concept during the lesson planning because it is very common to introduce a reading by writing a vocabulary and their meanings without any previous activity that helps students to think of that. Sometimes, our students are involved in so many activities that do not have the opportunity to prepare their brain to start learning. Learning is a process and I need to be sure my students have enough time and feedback to be aware to get into a reading activity.
Both these pre-reading activities are necessary and helpful especially when Ss are facing a particularly difficult reading. In addition, then can be enjoyable and give Ss a chance to be more participatory and active when doing skills that usually do not require much interaction.
